February - the thoughts of Love!

I just returned from a week in Tucson, Arizona where we had a great show and a fantastic week with old and new friends.  Our booth is set up next to four absolutely great Japanese artists who are so much fun and filled with such energy...and they make great glass art!  Lewis was in the Sonoran Flameoff then we sneaked away and found a great little Italian restaurant down near the Fox Theater.  The weather was beautiful, the crowds were larger then last year and I found a tool I wanted for a third of the normal price.

February is about red, love and valentines.  I loved writing out my valentines when I was little and putting them in the little white paper envelopes.  I love chocolate cupcakes with valentines on top, the little sugar valentines that are expressive and red roses that fill up a room with such great fragrance.  It's easy to celebrate Valentine's Day in my house because chocolate is a favorite no matter what form or even what day but if the strawberries are in season it will be dipping them that will be our center point of the day.

February is also our anniversary.  The Glass Art Magazine for January/February has a great article on how we met and how we have settled into such a great life.  The first anniversary is Paper and the flower is pansy [my grandmother's favorite flower].  We will celebrate our first anniversary with a quick trip to Las Vegas which will be a lot of fun.

Weather here between the mountains has been chilly but I am only wearing one pair of socks at a time.  I did finish my Art Journal and mailed it back to New York before the deadline - I learned so much putting it together - mostly that I have to think outside the box next year for it is a complete top to bottom detailed adventure that must fit into a little tiny journal.

This month will be working on learning to handle boro glass for I feel like I did when I made my first soft glass flower.  I have to learn to harness my ideas in some type of organized manner for too many are forgotten before I can create.  Well, I am off to fuse a little...may your February be filled with loving friends, great family, Valentines, chocolate and hugs...remember to do a random act of kindness and smile as though you were just given the best gift in the world!!

Loving February....barb

There are two things that everyone should do during the day - sing and write - even if you can't carry a tune or spell a word you should just fill your soul with both.

Lift me up to the stars - Lift me with the promise
that you shall always be there - lift me gently with love and care
Lift me sweetly with the strength of your heart
and whispers that I shall never fall far
Lift me up!

I am a Self Representing Artist [SRA #S 7] and a member of the International Society of Glass Beadmakers and the Florida Chapter of ISGB, Florida Glass Dragons.  These memberships help me to support the education and sharing of ideas in glass beadmaking.   I also participate in "Hope Bead Project" every year which is a project to help the citizens of a small community in Etheopia.  Most of my practice beads are given to young girls to encourage them to explore art.  Everyone should spend part of every day doing something creative - it's good for the harmony of your soul and always give to life more then you take.
